Welcome to the Playa Grande Surf Hotel, located near the pristine beach of Playa Grande (big beach), one of the most beautiful beaches on the Guanacaste coast of Costa Rica. The three mile long beach remains nearly untouched, as it is part of Baulas National Park, created for the preservation of the Leatherback Turtle. The white sand beach boasts one of the most consistent surf breaks in Costa Rica and is known for incredible barrels. The nearly private beach is also a terrific place to unwind, explore the beach and tide pools and observe truly world class sunsets.

THE HOTEL
The hotel is a charming two story Spanish style courtyard building, featuring a tower enclosed stairway and a waterfall gently flowing into a sparkling pool, complimented by landscaped grounds and tropical plants.

Surrounding the hotel is the natural indigenous forest of the Guanacaste region, with parrots, iguanas and howler monkeys making almost daily appearances.

We can arrange surfing lessons, horseback riding, hiking in the cloud forests, snorkeling, fishing trips, canopy zip line tours, and guided wildlife tours of the Tamarindo estuary. Or, just relax by the pool and enjoy the complete menu, including the delights of our very own sushi chef, at our Sushiko restaurant. Meals are served pool side and alcoholic beverages are available.

THE ROOMS
Standard Room – Large room with queen size bed and a day bed (all cotton sheets/comforter), large screen HDTV, refrigerator, coffee pot, tile floors and bath, wi-fi, and a/c. Comfortably sleeps three.

Deluxe Room – Large room with queen size bed and a day bed (all cotton sheets/comforter), large screen HDTV, refrigerator, coffee pot, tile floors and bath, wi-fi and a/c. Second floor with better view and higher ceilings than the standard room. Also features veranda with sofas/chairs/tables for outdoor relaxation. Comfortably sleeps three.

Suite – Living room with sofa, table/chair (seats 4), and kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot, double stainless steel sink and built in cabinets. Two bedrooms; each with a queen size bed, large screen HDTV, and a/c in each bedroom. Large bathroom. Comfortably sleeps four.

THE RESTAURANT
The combination of Guanacaste's premier sushi, excellent service, and the courtyard pool side ambience makes for a uniquely pleasurable dining experience. Not only the choice for sushi lovers, Chef Gregory's creations have converted many first time sushi diners into repeat customers and earned rave word of mouth reviews.

You must try the "Sushiko Salad" (freshest salmon, atun, pepino and masago, with a delicious secret sauce) the many special rolls (Volcano, Scorpion, Sashimi - that's right, Sashimi Roll - riceless tempura roll with tuna, salmon, marlin, kani and kabayaki sauce) and the Temaki Handrolls.

Complimenting the sushi is Chef Norman's complete continental menu; Cerviche, Chicken Teriyaki, Dedos de Pollo, an incredible Sakana Fry (Japanese breaded fish) and a Covina Al Vino Blanco (Peruvian seabass with white wine), this reviewer's favorite, that is worth writing home about. Fettucini Fruiti di Mare, Risotto, and Grilled Beef round out the menu. Soft drinks, smoothies, and an assortment of beer and wine are available.
