National Forecast
Caribbean Coast - Surf from the ENE coming in head high with a few bigger sets. Drops quickly Tuesday morning, leaving the late session with a few rare chest high wave waves. Wednesday through Friday look minimal, but rideable - knee to waist high max. Keep an eye on the Weather Channel to check for tropical storms.
Pacific Coast - Straight south swell arrives on Tuesday, pushing south facing beachbreaks up to 2 feet overhead and then 3 feet overhead on Thursday. The angle may make it miss some Guanacaste beaches, but most spots will be 1-2 feet overhead through Thursday afternoon. Then it drops back to a foot overhead Friday. Saturday looks to be more swell, but from a local tropical system, pushing in stormy surf from the West Southwest bringing 1-2 feet overhead waves through the weekend (bigger if the storm becomes a hurricane) and into next Monday. Watch for heavy rains, lightning, and strong rips.
The Long Shot - More straight south swell on the way, pushing it back to 2 feet overhead by next Wednesday. Find those point breaks.

Local Forecast
From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - The swell continues to pump perfect Playa Grande size surf in the shoulder to just overhead size but the conditions are sketchy at best. Sunday, the head high nicely organized swell, was marred by the afternoon side shore wind and never quite peeled off in classic Playa Grande form. There were lots of clean, hollow faces and plenty of makeable waves. We are looking forward to the morning high tides this week and the chance of a great session should go way up. Crowds are definitely not a factor.
From Colin at Una Ola (July 19)- Waist to chest high waves with poor shape (3-4ft) The waves were messy again this morning. Another storm came through last night creating sloppy disorganized conditions morning. We have mostly cloudy skies with very light onshore winds and strong chance of rain today. The wind were calm, but this didn’t help the surf clean up. Hopefully, the conditions will begin to improve tomorrow.
